Passwords that contain a "<" symbol give an error message about a "potentially dangerous request". Whether clicking Generate Password for a random password or specifying one yourself, if it contains a "<" symbol, it returns an error message and won't change the password. You can either generate a new password, or enter a new password of your choosing.
