About Kaltura Media
Kaltura is a media sharing platform integrated into myLesley and offers a secure environment for faculty and students to share media content privately or with others in the course. The easiest way to add video into your course is via the Kaltura Media Mashup tool. This tool allows you to add media content anywhere within your myLesley course, such as an item, assignment, Discussion, etc.

Access Kaltura Media
Original Course View
Locate the place in your course where you wish to upload media. From the content editor, click the Add Content button.
Scroll down to the Additional Tools section and select Kaltura Media.
This will take you to your Kaltura My Media area. The My Media area is where all of your Kaltura media is stored. From here, you may select previously added media, upload new media, or record new media.
Once you have selected your media, you will be brought back to the text/content editor and your embedded media will be displayed.
Make any other changes to your content. Once you are done click Submit at the bottom of the page to save your changes.
Ultra Course View
Add Kaltura Media via the Content Editor (Documents, Discussions, Assignments, etc.)
You may add Kaltura Media directly into a Blackboard Document, Discussion, Assignment, or anywhere you see the Content Editor.
Locate the place where you want to add content and click the Insert Content (+) button in the content editor. This will open a menu. Select Content Market.
This will bring you into the Content Market. Scroll down to Institution Tools and select Kaltura Media.
This will take you to your Kaltura My Media area. The My Media area is where all of your Kaltura media is stored. From here, you may select previously added media, upload new media, or record new media.
Once you have selected your media, you will be brought back to the text/content editor and your embedded media will be displayed.
Add Kaltura Media to the Course Content Area (Faculty Only)
Faculty may add Kaltura Media directly to the Course Content page (within a folder or module). Locate the place where you want to add content and click the plus button. This will open a menu. Select Content Market.
This will bring you int the Content Market. Scroll down to Institution Tools and select Kaltura Media.
This will take you to your Kaltura My Media area. The My Media area is where all of your Kaltura media is stored. From here, you may select previously added media, upload new media, or record new media.
Once you have selected your media, you will be brought back to your Course Content and a link to your media will be visible. Click on the three dots button to edit your title, add a description, etc.
Add Existing Media to Your Course
If your media has already been uploaded (or shared with you) in Kaltura Media, you may easily add it to your course. From Kaltura Media, locate your media and click the Select button next to it.
Once you have selected your media, you will be brought back to the text/content editor and your embedded media will be displayed. Make any other changes to your content and save.
Upload Media From Your Computer
To upload media from your computer, click on the + Add New button at the top of the page. This will open a menu. Select Media Upload.

This will open a new window. You may drag and drop your file to the Media Upload area or click Choose a File to Upload to locate a file on your computer.
Once you have selected your video, your video will begin to upload. Depending on the size of your file and your connection speed it may take several minutes. Once your video has uploaded, you will be prompted to edit the title and (optionally) add tags and a description. Once you have finished, click Save at the bottom of the page. Next, click </> Save and Embed at the top of the page.
Once you have selected your media, you will be brought back to the text/content editor and your embedded media will be displayed. Make any other changes to your content and save.
Use the Express Recorder
Use the Express Recorder to record directly from your browser without the need to install any additional software. Express Recorder allows you to record any combination of your webcam, microphone, and screen.
Express Recorder Browser Compatibility
Express Recorder is compatible with the following browsers:
- Windows and MacOS: Chrome or Firefox
- iOS: Safari
Express Recorder runs on WebRTC. Check to see if your browser is supported:
- Go to WebRTC Constrains & Statistics.
- Click Get Media and click Allow access to your camera.
- Wait for the stream. If the stream on the left does not display, the browser you are using is not webRTC compatible.
In order to use Express Capture, you will need to ensure that your browser allows Kaltura to access your camera and microphone.

Launch Express Recorder
To launch Express Recorder, click on the + Add New button at the top of the page. This will open a menu. Select Express Recorder.
This will launch the Express Recorder tool.
Select Your Camera
Click on the Camera Settings (camera icon) to select your camera or to toggle the camera on or off.
Select Your Audio
Click on the Audio Settings (microphone icon) to select your microphone or to toggle the microphone on or off. If you are creating an audio-only recording, you may toggle your camera off.
Select Your Screen
Click on the Screen Share Settings (screen icon) to share your screen while recording.
If you want to record your screen, you will be prompted to select the window or screen you wish to share. Additionally, your browser may require permission to allow Kaltura to see your screen.
Note: Screen Capture may be enabled only when both the camera and audio are enabled.
Create Your Recording
To begin recording, click the red Start Recording button.
Click the Stop button to stop recording.
Once you have finished recording, the file will process and then be ready for you to review.
For multi-stream videos (if you recorded both your camera and your screen), the streams are presented one above the other on the preview page.
Choose Record Again to re-record or choose Use This to use the current recording and upload to Kaltura.
As your video uploads to Kaltura Media, you will be prompted to edit the Name, Description (optional) and Tags (optional). Once your media has processed, click</> Save and Embed to add the media to your course.
Once you have selected your media, you will be brought back to the text/content editor and your embedded media will be displayed. Make any other changes to your content and save.

Kaltura My Media
The Kaltura My Media area is a private space where media content may be uploaded and managed. From the My Media area you may edit your videos' options, create clips from your videos, delete videos, and more.

Editing Videos in Kaltura Media
The Kaltura Media Editor in My Media allows users to trim the beginning or end of videos, create clips, and splice then remove (chop) portions of a video.

Course Media Gallery
The course Media Gallery is a searchable gallery of media content for a specific course. In order to appear in the course Media Gallery, media must be specifically assigned to the gallery.

Kaltura Capture
Kaltura Capture is a presentation and production tool that allows users to record any combination of their screen, voice, and webcam. Capture is a standalone application, which means it can be used even without an internet connection. All recorded presentations can be easily uploaded to your My Media library in myLesley with just one click.

Kaltura Mobile
You can easily upload video from your mobile device to your myLesley course using Kaltura Media. Login to myLesley using your device's browser and navigate to the area in the course where you wish to upload a video (ex Discussion Board, Blog, etc.).
