Colleague terminal (colon prompt) users - updates for Linux

Modified on Tue, 03 Mar 2020 at 10:41 AM

On the Colleague Linux environment if you use the colon prompt you have to make an initial setup change so that some odd characters won't show up, and you need to be aware that the backspace function doesn't work when you are initially logging in. Here are some instructions to resolve the two issues.

Fixing Strange Characters

Follow the instructions below for this one-time-only change to fix some strange characters. Open your terminal (colon prompt) session, but DO NOT log in with your credentials yet.

1. Before you log in with your credentials go to Setup > Terminal > Terminal Emulation.

2. Select vt100.

3. Click on OK

4. Click on the Save icon.

5. Replace the existing .wic file on your computer by choosing Yes when the window pops up saying that prod_normal.wic already exists. Do you want to replace it?

6. Return to the session and click on Enter on your keyboard.

7. Now you can log in with your credentials.

Backspace function

The backspace function doesn't work when you initially log in, but will work once you are authenticated. If you want to enable backspacing during the login process, you will need to do this every time you log in. If you mistype your username or password at the login prompt, you can either wait for the system to re-prompt you for your credentials, or follow the steps for allowing backspacing during login.

1. Click on Setup.

2. Click on Terminal.

3. Locate the Backspace area.

4. Use the drop-down arrow.

5. Change to Delete (127) from the default of Normal (8).

6. Click on OK.

This backspace setting is applicable only during the login process.

*Note*: If you allow backspacing during the login process you will need to change the setting back to Normal (8) once you are at the colon prompt or you will not be able to backspace at the colon prompt.
