Requesting a Zoom Webinar

Zoom Webinar Licensing Requirements

Zoom Webinars require special licensing, which must be assigned to the host creating the event. Lesley University has a limited pool of webinar licenses, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Faculty and staff may request a webinar license for either 500 or 1000 participants.

  • If you only need a larger meeting capacity (without webinar-specific features), you can also request a Large Meeting license, which supports up to 1000 participants.

  • To request a Webinar or Large Meeting license, complete the [Webinar License Request Form].

Requesting A Webinar License and Event Registration

Your Zoom account does not come with a webinar license. To host a webinar, a license must be actively assigned to you as host. To maximize availability for all users, we ask that licenses not be requested more than six weeks prior to your event.

Once you have a webinar license assigned to you, you'll be able to schedule your Webinar to enable participant registration in advance.

Zoom Meetings vs. Zoom Webinars

  • Zoom Meetings are designed for collaborative discussions, where all participants can share their screen, turn on their video and audio, and see other attendees.

  • Zoom Webinars are structured for presentation-style events, where the host and designated panelists can share their video, audio, and screen. Attendees are view-only but can engage through Q&A, chat, and polls. The host has the option to unmute attendees when needed.

  • In Webinars, attendees cannot rename themselves, ensuring consistency in participant identification.
