TV Service on Campus

Modified on Wed, 13 Sep 2023 at 08:08 PM

As of June 30th, 2019, Lesley University has transitioned away from offering traditional cable television service in individual dorm rooms.

Students will not have existing service provided at the coax port in their room, and will not be able to sign up for their own individual accounts and pay for traditional cable service in their dorm rooms.

Televisions will continue to be available in ALL residence hall lounges with a bring your own service set up. The Student Center will often stream live television.

The University has made this decision in order to focus our resources on network/WiFi services and in keeping with current "cut the cord" trends. We know that over 25% of all activity on the Lesley network is for media streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and YouTube, and students are heavy users of these services. Concentrating our resources on supporting this trend in media consumption will enable us to best serve the largest number of students.

Options for Cutting the Cord

Using an Over The Air (OTA) antenna is a great alternative to traditional cable TV, providing you with free access to over 24 local television channels.  For a full list of channels available in our area, please visit

Mohu is a popular manufacturer of OTA antennas.  You can visit their website to find the right antenna for you at

If you are still missing a few channels for sports, movies, or other programming, you will find that many channels now offer their own direct streaming service subscriptions.  Additionally, premium streaming services such as Amazon Prime,  YouTube TV, Sling TV, Hulu Live TV, Philo TV offer access to popular television programming and similar features such as DVR for an additional fee.

When using any streaming video service, we suggest plugging into the hardwired internet connection via an Ethernet cable. where possible for the best experience.
