Whose information do I need to put on my FAFSA?

Modified on Fri, Jan 12 at 10:42 AM

When completing a FAFSA, you're not just providing your information. You're also required to submit information about your "contributors." The government also considers their tax information when evaluating your financial aid eligibility. Contributors may include:

  • your parents
  • the spouse of one or both of your parents (if applicable)
  • your spouse (if married)

For the 2024-2025 FAFSA, you need to provide information for each of your contributors. They'll need to create a Federal Student Aid ID to enter information on the FAFSA. Contributors can create a login on the Federal Student Aid website

Not sure which parent(s) is a contributor? Federal Student Aid has provided helpful guides for students and parents. You'll find them attached to this article in PDF (parent guide) and JPG format (student guide).
