Requirements

There are no minimum requirements for connecting a computer to the network. However, if you require assistance, computers on anything below Macintosh OS X or Windows XP are not supported. We do reserve the right to require any Windows security patches deemed necessary for the health of the network. In order to connect to our wired network, you will need:

  • An Ethernet Adapter, either built-in to the device or usb
  • An Ethernet Cable
  • Your Lesley username and password

Wired Connections for Computers

In order to connect to our wired network, you will need:

  • An Ethernet Adapter, either built into the device or a usb dongle
  • An Ethernet Cable
  • Your Lesley username and password

In each room there are Ethernet jacks located on the wall. These jacks will be color coded.  Plug your Ethernet cable into the jack with the red icon. To finish setting up your Internet connection you will need to login to the network via 802.1x.

In order to connect such devices to our network, please refer to the support article Connecting IoT Devices to the Lesley Network

Wireless Connection

For security purposes, Lesley does not allow personal routers or wireless access points onto the network. We reserve the right to shut down any such unauthorized devices found on campus.  Information on using our wireless network can be found in our Wireless Network Information article.

Policies

Residential student use of the Internet is governed by Lesley's Acceptable Use Policy.

By registering your computer on the network, you agree to the terms of the policy and assume responsibility for the use of that computer on the network. For this reason, we discourage students from using their user name and password to register someone else's computer on the network.

Please note that students are responsible for maintaining their own computers, including updating Windows with critical security patches, regularly updating and running anti-virus protection, and updating and running anti-spyware software.
