Certifying the Census of Your Classes: A Step-by-Step Guide

Modified on Mon, Sep 8 at 3:09 PM

Has a student on your roster not attended nor participated in your course, and neither communicated with you regarding their absence nor logged into your course by the 8th day of the semester or term? If so, you'll need to mark those students as "Never Attended" on Self-Service. See below for a brief explanation of this process. You can also download the attached PDF with step-by-step instructions for future reference.

Marking a Student as "Never Attended"

1) Log in to Self-Service.

2) In the Daily Work menu, select Faculty > Faculty Overview.

3) Click on the relevant course section.

4) Select the "Census/Never Attended" tab.

5) Check the "Check if Never Attended" box for each student that neither attended nor participated in that section.

6) When you've finished marking non-attendees for that course, click the "Certify" button.

7) Repeat this process for your other active courses.

Submitting your course census enables the Office of the University Registrar to find students who may not realize they have forgotten to drop a course. This effort helps Lesley and the student maintain compliance with Financial Aid guidelines.

Please Note:

  • Do not select "Never Attended" for students with excused absences during this timeframe.
  • Even if your course has not started, you must still submit your course census by the deadline for that semester/term. Once the add/drop period ends, students are officially responsible for–and charged for–their courses. It is essential that enrollment is recorded accurately.
