TABLE OF CONTENTS
Overview
Assignments allow students to view instructions and submit their work in one location. Once an assignment is created, a column is automatically added to the Grade Center where the instructor can review submissions, assign grades, and provide feedback. Our recommended best practice is for instructors to create assignments within the Course Content section of the course.
For more information on creating assignments, view the Create an Assignment tutorial video:
Creating Assignments
To begin, go into a content area and click on the Assessments tab at the top of the page. This will open a menu. Select Assignment.
Give your assignment a name and provide instructions for the students. You may also attach relevant documents that students may need in order to complete the assignment.
Enter a Due Date for your assignment. Students can still submit past the due date but their assignment will be marked as late.
Enter the points possible for the assignment. Points value must be between 0 and 100.
Check the box to make the assignment available. You may also choose to limit the assignment's availability by making it visible after a certain date. See Managing Release Dates (Setting Date/Time Restrictions) for more information.
Optional Settings:
There are additional assignment options, but most faculty choose to keep the default settings.
Submission Details
Choose the Assignment type (individual or group assignment), the number of attempts (the default is a single attempt), and whether or not to check for plagiarism using SafeAssign.
Grading Options
Select whether to enable Anonymous Grading or Delegated Grading for the assignment.
Display of Grades
Select the default grade display (score, text, percentage, letter, complete/incomplete) and decide whether to include the grade in Grade Center calculations, show the grade to students in their My Grades area, and show statics for this in the students' My Grades.
More information on these settings may be found here: Assignment Grade Settings
Once you have finished creating your Assignment, click Submit at the top or bottom of the page.
Group Assignments
Group Assignments allow students to work together on a collaborative assignment and all members of the group receive the same grade. See Create Group Assignments for more information. For information on grading group assignments, please see Grading Group Assignments.

Downloading Assignments
You may wish to download your students' submitted assignments to view them offline. See Downloading Assignments for more information.
SafeAssign
SafeAssign is a plagiarism detection and prevention tool that compares a submitted assignment against a set of academic papers to identify areas of overlap. SafeAssign is fully integrated into the Assignments tool, allowing the option to use the SafeAssign option with any Assignment. See SafeAssign for more information.
