Setting Multiple Release Dates for Content (Adaptive Release)
In many courses, instructors set up release dates to manage when students are able to access content. This may be set on a folder or module level (ex weekly content) or on individual items or tools (ex files, Assignments, discussions, etc.). In some instances you may need to modify your release dates in order to accommodate a student (or a few students) who need to access the content earlier than the rest of the class.
The Adaptive Release tool will allow you to create one rule to release the content for the student(s) with accommodations, and then create a second rule for the rest of the students. This will allow your first student(s) to receive the content in advance while the other students will receive it at the regularly scheduled time.
To do so, locate your module in the course and hover over it until the chevron appears. Click the chevron to open a menu.
This will open a menu. Select Adaptive Release: Advanced
This will bring you into the Adaptive Release: Advanced area. Click Create Rule.
Give your rule a name and click Submit
Now that you have created your rule, you will need to add criteria to the rule, including membership and date. Click Create Criteria to open a menu.
Select Membership to add a specific student to the rule. This rule will only apply to those selected.
Add members to your group. You may add students by username or by group. Once you have added members, click Submit.
You will be brought back to your rule criteria page. Click Create Criteria to add dates to the rule.
Select Date to specify the date the content will be available to the rule member(s).
Set the date and time when you want students to access the content. Click Submit to save changes.
You will be brought back to your Rule. Click OK to return to the Adaptive Released: Advanced page and create a second rule.
Repeat the same steps as before. This time you will add the remainder of the students to the membership rule and select a second release date for the date rule. Once both rules have been created, your first student(s) will be able to access the content early and the rest of the students will be able to access the content at the regularly scheduled time.
Test Availability Exceptions
You may add various exceptions for students using the Test tool. Exceptions include the number of attempts, the timer, the availability date/time, and force completion.
To add exceptions, locate your test in your course. Click on the chevron to the right of the test name to open a menu.
Select Edit the Test Options.
In your Test Options, scroll down to the Test Availability Exceptions. Click Add User or Group to begin adding exceptions.
You will then see a list of users and groups in your course. Select the user(s) or group(s) to which the exception will apply. You can add more than one exception to a test.
Once you have selected your user(s) or group(s), add the exceptions. For example, User 1 may have unlimited attempts and a longer availability window.
Repeat the process for the exceptions. You may have multiple people with exceptions for each test.
Once you have finished adding exceptions, click Submit to save your changes.
